I wonder if anyone might have any information on this. It was described as Silbermedaille 1748, unsigniert, auf das 50jährige Amtsjubiläum des Pastors Heinrich Petri. Brustbild des Pastors r.//Ansicht der Martinikirche, darüber strahlendes Dreieck mit dem Namen Jehovas. 44,97 mm; 28,65 g. Knyph. 10101. According to Google: BRUNSWICK CITY 1748 Silver Medal, unsigned, on the 50th anniversary of the Official pastor Heinrich Petri. Half-length portrait of the pastor r. / / View the Martini Church, about radiant triangle with the Jehovah's name. 44.97 mm 28.65 g Knyph. 10101. This is the first time I've dabbled outside of ancients. It is absolutely stunning in hand, gorgeous patina and huge! I'm assuming it is an ex-museum coin with the #9 in marker. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of Heinrich Petri, I've searched the internet to no avail. I would love to learn anything about the history behind the medal. Thanks, Nemo
The "Knyph." refers to the Knyphausen collection, documented in a catalog from the 1870s (Münz- und Medaillen-Kabinett des Grafen Karl zu Inn- und Knyphausen). This collection was auctioned in 1930. Elsewhere that medal is listed as "Knigge 4300"; that would be in the "Münz- und Medaillen-Kabinet des Freiherrn Wilh. Knigge" catalog from 1901. The Knyphausen was reprinted in 2009 - sorry, I don't have any of these catalogs ... Christian
I see you've been looking for quite some time. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...5ui2ah4ofdh95&topic=92510.msg573595#msg573595
I don't have any information either, but that is a fantastic medal! Posts like this make me want to start looking into them, but get easily scared off by how huge and diverse the field is. So incredibly detailed for an 18th century piece.
The only other listing I found is the one of your medal... http://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?auction=1022&category=21001&lot=961583
