1722 A france 1/3 E counter stamp?

    You can see on the obverse a few breaks in the design, and the letters look a little weird (excuse the photography). In the third photo, you can definitely see another crown that is rotated against the main design. Does anyone know what this is?

    Rotated die with a counter clash? I'm so totally just guessing.

    Overstruck on an earlier coin? I'm so totally just guessing, myself.

    Overstriking on other coins was quite common in 18th century France. Your coin is struck over a 1/3 ecu of the previous 1720 type.
