I recently acquired this coin in some junk silver. I am not too knowledgable about Cobs, but believe it to be minted in 1702 in Potosi Bolivia. If so, it seems to be authentic, but by the photo does anyone have a doubt that it is not? Also, the 1700s KP book has it listed at km #31 or the much more valuable KM #R31. I cannot see the difference in the two Kms? Does anyone know how to tell which KM is correct for this coin? image.jpg image.jpg Many thanks.

The R numbers are for "royal coinage" (presentation pieces) "struck on specially prepared round planchets using well centered dies in excellent condition to prove the quality of the minting to the Viceroy or even to the King".

Thank you for the explanation. I do not think that this coin fits the definition of the royal version. Happy to have it though.
