For the past two years I have participated in a world wide secret santa exchange through a website called reddit. For those of you who don't know it I wouldn't recommend it since it is a huge time waster! This year there were over 100,000 people matched across the world. My gift arrived today from Poland and I was very pleased to see a coin inside alongside a lot of various treats.

    Ruler: Sigismund II Augustus
    Year: 1559
    Denomination: Half Gross
Obv: MONETA MAGNI DVCAT LITVA, knight riding left on horseback, reins in left, sword in right, star and 1559 below
Rev: SIGIS AVG REX PO MAG DVX LI, imperial eagle facing, wings spread, head left

I am unsure of the mint and am curious if anyone knows a way of identifying it?

I am quite happy with this coin and am already looking forward to next year!

I have been to reddit many times, it is a time waster and addicting. I dont visit it often though as I am afraid it will suck me in completely. Bad enough this board does :p

    Nice coin, especially for free!

Wow Whiz, that is a very cool coin (congrats)

    reddit, eh? ...

Oh my God, I definitely do "not" need another random time waster ... for the past 23 years I have been sucked into the biggest time waster of them all => they call it "work"!!
