I wish I could be there with you! :thumb:

As to "my" Carolina Token, it's one of many I want but will have to be the luckiest toad alive to get. ;) But the thrill isn't in ownership, it's in the hunt so I will have fun trying to find those impossible to find ones and even if I never dew find one, I will have fun. :D

    Ribbit :)

Ps: Next time you're planning on coming stateside, drop me a line way in advance and I'll see what I can dew to take off and meet you (north-east somewhere) and we'll go coining together. :D

HT , ive come across something which i feel must explain the elephant. Its too early yet to know why its there but i do have reference to it and pictures, its the same elephant and yes its on a British coin.
One thing about UK coins , anything thats on there is on there for a reason.
If i cant find out why,ill give you what i have.

Ok , heres a gold piece from 1664 , if we look closely , there is your elephant.Ive looked until im crosseyed and im sure its the same design.
In this instance it means the gold was mined in Africa by the African Co.

This strengthens the idea that the elephant copper was destined (or represented) for tangiers i think.
    Thoughts appreciated HT.

One small difference, my elephant has the snout going down and the one you posted goes up (good luck). However, I think it's very possible they were meant for the colonies in Africa but there's no documentation covering them. ;)

Merely an opening gambit Mr T , as the nights draw in and the north wind blows i may happen to find time to further our investigation.
