    Hey everyone,

I just thought I'd share a recent gift I received from a great friend of mine, the 1694 Elephant Token.

They're quite hard to find, especially with the amount of detail this one shows. A magnificent piece in my opinion, and I will always hold onto it.

You can read about them here: http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinIntros/ElephantTokens.intro.html

Terrific addition to your collection Ryan. Very nice indeed, and it sounds like you have a great friend too :thumb:

In Durst's book, he associates the Elephant Token to the Carolinas and also New England.

very nice Hephalump and thanks for the link which lead me into early US mint.LOL , Im quite ignorant of early coins/mintage so its educational for me

I wonder if the elephant was considered a luck symbol in Europe at the time or just an exotic device for a token.

Very nice Ryan, that is a scarce and desirable coin. Your example has a nice level of detail.
    Congratulations.

Thanks guys! And yes he's a great friend and many of you knew him. I've only come across a couple of these over the years, and never would of thought the day would come where I'd actually own one. Definitely one of my favorite pieces :)

Keep coming back to this Elephant Token - If I recall, this is only the second example which has been posted in CT (at least in my time). Handsome Toad had one as well, in lower grade, but a scarce variety.
It circulated only to a limited extent in the US colonies, but it has undeniable appeal.
It remains in my list of "must have".

Some friend you have there, Ryan!
