I am waiting on better photos. There is a local island here called Money Island with many stories about pirate treasure (some of which has been found). I received these photos from a guy that found the coin detecting there a couple days ago. Through his research, the "S" mintmark was never meant for circulation. Anyone know what this is?
Maybe this one, or one like it??? - 1655 Countermarked 12 Maravedis from Spain??? https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces75371.html
Holy moley, now THAT'S a find! I'm amazed the condition its in for being copper, usually they are all chew up.
These dont seem to sell for much. Im curious what the value may be on this one? And if the S mint mark is as rare as he thinks.
Would he want to record where it was found? I'd think that'd just be cool to know, I'm not saying it would go to authentication.
@ilmcoins, tell him to record where it was found, and keep that record with it. While that won't have authentication significance, it has historical significance.
