That is one bad mother-shut your mouth!! Looks like Hendrix a bit. Very nice!! Those thaler's are really cool, maybe someday I will add one to my collection!! :thumb:
The man depicted on the coin is Emperor Ferdinand III, from the Habsburg dynasty. (Augsburg was a free city, not part of any duchy, principality, etc. - and by putting the emperor's portarit on the coin they emphasize this "we have only the emperor above us" status.) And quite a few emperors had that "Habsburg jaw" ... Christian
Hey I appreciate the history on that Taler. I rec'd my first Taler as I just had to have one. Of course mine is very common but does anyone know the history on this one. I got it off ebay for $30 and change delivered. I think I did alright this time especially since it's graded. Anyone?
The short version, so to say, is here: http://www.austrian-mint.com/mariatheresienthaler?l=en And here is more - maybe more than you ever wanted to know about the piece. http://www.theresia.name/en/index.html Christian
Hmm, regandon would know. But here is the same type in a somewhat poorer condition http://www.muenzauktion.com/pater/item.php5?id=100130015 and that dealer wants about €350 for it ... Christian
