I decided to go completely outside of my usual areas of collecting and bought this Rijksdaalder from an Ebay seller in the Baltics. To my pleasant surprise the package got to me in less than a week and I was excited to open it. Since I hardly know anything about this type of coin, I'd appreciate any feedback or information regarding market value, variety, etc. The planchet quality seems to be quite poor and the lettering is not very well executed. I'm not sure if taverns in the 17th century had happy hour, but it looks like that's when the die engraver might have done his work... That just adds to my fascination with the history behind it. It's my first Thaler sized European coin and makes me want to learn more.
