That will be a challenge. Our son lives 1000 miles from us. But, I'll see if he can send a photo. And I described it wrong, it is a money clip.
Here are the photos of the Pontiac money clip I talked about. @masterswimmer @Collecting Nut @capthank and anyone else interested.
Thanks! That is a nice collectible to have. Very unusual and it's an advertising piece. Glad you found it!
@masterswimmer @Collecting Nut @capthank He has been keeping it in his gun safe with all those solvents in the air. I would like to tell him to dip it in silver cleaner, rinse it and put it in a zip lock. It looked almost brand new when I gave it to him years ago. Any thoughts?
We're no longer talking about numismatic value of that piece. It is purely antique exonumia. I can't speak to cleaning it based on that criteria. My understanding is not to clean antiques either. @Mainebill might be able to assist with this one.
Speaking of Dad's Root Beer, back when the anonymity of analog telephones allowed for "crank" phone calls, one of our favorite pastimes was calling a store and saying something along these lines: Us: "Do you have Dad's Root Beer?" Person on Phone: "Yes, we do." Us: "Well, give it back, Dad's mad!!" Person on phone hangs up, rolls eyes. On the other end, half a dozen 12 year olds laugh hysterically for 10 days. The days of crank phone calls are over. Maybe that's a good thing.
A quick proper dip and a through rinsing can't hurt it. I'd skip the plastic bag but I would protect it by getting it away from those fumes.
