The U.S. mint sold these 50 and more years ago as a "youth set" that was priced at something like $1 each. Later the mint sold the whole set with an album, which is the set I have. The mint has issued additional pieces as the new presidents take office. I think they are asking $15 a piece for them now. All of the older presidents before the George W. Bush are no longer offered. These pieces are not very valuable. The original medals were made in the 19th century. They were much large and have much better detail and strike execution. Pieces in silver were given to the Indians as peace offerings. Hence the name "Indian Peace Medals." Copper pieces were offered to the general public. Buying the silver ones is risky because the government can come along and say they were taken from an Indian and confiscate it. There are collectors, but I'm not one of them. I don't have an original 19th century Buchanan (These things have very low mintages, but also a limited collector following so they don't bring super high prices.), but I do have a Millard Fillmore piece with the same reverse.
