Yup, they're bullion. Collectible bullion as I like to think. Nothing wrong with that.. Collectors prevail, dealers be hanged......

FYI, eBay sellers are pre-selling these sets at $200 per so far.

I don’t see these as just bullion any more than I do proof coins or other special issues. These coins have value added with the presentation case and the special finishes. The S mint mark is worth something to a lot of collectors also as is a limited mintage. People pay extra for these features just as people pay extra for an ASE in a slab. It is an added value to what would otherwise be simply an ounce of bullion metal. If you take a stock automobile from the factory and add custom paint, wheels and other enhancements it is no longer simply a stock car. People pay more for them all the time. With all that said, I won’t be buying this set.

I am guessing the mints cost to produce the set beginning to end is somewhere in the neighborhood of $88 per set. If that is close then the profit off of 250K sets would be $15M. If they lowered the cost to $130 they would have to sell an additional 120K sets just to break even on the profit at a $150 per set and 250K sets.

I would have been happy to see them at $130 but still will not pass because of $20. Would I have bought 2 at $130? No, the mintage would be to high to make it worth trying to flip a set and make any meaningful profit to be worth the time.

I would not have done it any different if I were the mint. They caught heck last year because they didn't cater to the collector. They will probably catch heck again this year because they did.
