Hello all thanks for stopping in. I found a star note the other day which has a "fancy note" birth date for the serial number. Has been circulated, not badly but it folded and wrinkled near one edge on the bottom. Any idea about what a potential premium could be, if any? JB10161951* 10/16/1951
To me, no premium, but on eBay, if you write the description just right and catch a few bidiots . . .
Cool, had that gut feeling. I would save it if it were a dollar bill, or perhaps if it was a famous date or something. Thanks for some quick input.
If you can find someone with the initials "JB" born on October 16, 1951, so much the better! It's a long shot, though. Even longer odds than the time I found an 1861 love token dime engraved with all three of my initials in the proper sequence. As you know, another thing working against you (in saleability, not coolness) is the high face value of the note. Even if you found a JB or anyone else born on that date, they're less likely to want to tie up $100 + premium in such a keepsake than they would be if it were a $1 or $5 note. I found a 1950 $100 star note when I cashed my paycheck years ago. Fun find, but the rent was due, so my landlord got it. I pointed out the date and star and explained, telling him it might be worth a tiny bit over face value. From the level of enthusiasm he showed (he didn't yawn but I think he rolled his eyes a bit, LOL), I'm sure that note ended up right back in the bank within a week.
