I won this 10 taels sycee salt tax ingot in 2005, during the New York International Coin Fair auction conducted by Ponterio and Associates, Sale 133. The lot number is 2032. I forgot to note the catalog references, as well as province, which I think is Yunnan. The weight of this sycee is 322.4 grams. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks
While not the same it is similar to this: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1140493 Pretty cool piece.
Thanks. Sorry for the misspelling of taels in the thread's header. I guess I had Dickens on the mind when creating it.
I did a recalculation of the weight, and it comes out to 8.6 taels, based on a tael weight of 37.46737 grams for a tael. I need to decipher the date, but it appears to be some month in 1859. Here's a link to a very similar example: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=319&lot=51024
This is a very interesting piece!!! Thanks for showing - that worked out to be a challenge. From what I understand: 平遠縣 (written from right to left) - Pingyung Country (Guangdong / Kwangtung) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pingyuan_County,_Guangdong 同治九年 - 1870 十二月銀匠陸裕祥 - December, Silversmith I am still not sure if it is from Yunnan Province unless I typed in something wrong.
