Not so sure about the 3CN. I compared the EF and AU prices for some of the really low mintage pieces in the 2015 and 2017 red books. The printed values were about 200% higher in 2017 than in 2015. By comparison, the prices for bust and seated half dimes had not changed hardly at all.

I am going to learn Hindi and Chinese since we will be working for them as shoe shin boys in the future. Of course, I don't have much future being an old sod.

Interesting thread topic. I recently revamped and decided to sell all my silver pieces save one or two, I decided to collect gold. So my choice as to what coin may appreciate in value the most would be my 1855 three dollar gold princess. It was labeled vf, but I think it's a details coin. Regardless, despite some minor issues around the eye area and a small mark on the rim it's in great shape. I think this type coin is always in demand.

What made you make that massive change over to gold? I'm generally a silver type collector and I'm always refining my collecting strategy/philosophy, so I'm curious to hear what you have to say.

Don't get me wrong I love silver. But I think some would agree there are many different series and types. I decided to move primarily to gold because first off I decided that if I was going to make an average purchase of 400-500 per coin, then why not just buy a gold half eagle? So I started tracking the buying and selling trends of the types of gold coins I am interested in. Nothing extravagant, but just enough to give me a basic idea of what I like and how much I'd like to spend.
Secondly, for me it's much easier to collect the type of silver coinage I want if I focus on the higher end pieces. Higher end for me are low mint state certain year Barber's for example. I am working on the 1912 Barber series. I am doing an MS Mint set and a proof set. So type of collecting takes time, and big money. Well big to me.
As for the gold, also easier to collect as most dealers consider what I like bullion anyways, save for certain coins I am looking for. :)

Ok I see - I thought you stumbled across an unavoidable strategy or other lol.

But yes, I generally agree with you on the concept of focusing on "higher end" coins, though I continue to stick with silver while your preference seems to be mostly with gold. I also like to stick with "high grade" and problem-free, among other qualifications.
