1 pie proof like britah india

    I'm a big fan of all India coins. However, it wasn't the forum that got me interested. It was a 96 year old Brit that showed me his collection one day, years ago, and I've loved them ever since. I remember being struck by the beauty of the reverse of one of his Victorian rupees. I still have yet to see a rupee as nice as the one I saw that day. Or maybe I just remember it nicer than it actually was, since it had been the first I had seen. Either way, gorgeous coins.
    Here's a picture of one of the first Indian coins I aquired. It's got some interesting toning, it looks quite a bit like some of the ones I've seen in little plastic cases with certificates saying they are from a shipwreck.

    That's a British penny, but not from British India. The ones from British India have a different portrait of Victoria. This is the portrait used on later Victorian rupees. The same is used on the later British India copper coins as well.
