You can even initially grab a daily pass, look around, and they'll apply that toward a membership during the show. No loss. You can even initially grab a daily pass, look around, and they'll apply that toward a membership during the show. No loss. Expect a sales pitch to upgrade to Platinum membership (dead tree version of The Numismatist), but if it's not your thing, hold strong. I know that when I first joined the ANA (1993, I think), I was like "What would I want with that?" The bennies of membership are fairly stout and the Board is constantly kicking around ideas to make it an even better value. Just the Liberty Mutual car insurance discount is real. The best thing I have found is that the Board actually does listen to members who care enough to show up to the public board meetings. I came from just some shlub member to someone on a first name basis with the entire Board and fulltime ANA management staff in what seems like a nanosecond. Actually it happened between Chicago 2011 and the wrap-up of Philly 2012. By 2014, Walt Ostromecki (then the Prez) named me a Numismatic Point of Light. Point is: you can be unhappy about the state of ANA's leadership, or you can get to know them and mold them.
