Has anyone bought the Sacagawea coins at the post office? In the past, that is the place where I've gotten most these coins.
I guess I'm just wondering if it's possible? Or is it illegal?

    Thanks.

No... Not illegal at all. Those Sacy's are legal tender..... Used to be I could get the golden dollars from my post office and they stopped giving them out.

Some post offices give them out as change instead of dollar bills. Very legal.

Yes, legal…and some businesses here locally still give out JFK halves as change. Depends on the business but it cuts down how much change the employee has to deal with according to customer traffic. I frequently get rolls from the bank, keep the best and spread the spenders all over town to keep pocket change alive.

Nowadays, with everyone using plastic for 90% of purchases, you have to intentionally plan on using cash at specific places…imo…Spark

Yep, I'm sorry I didn't clarify, in the past when I'd pay with cash, they would give me the coin as change. I'm pretty sure that's where I got almost all of the ones I have. It's been a long time since I've paid with cash!

I didn't know if the Post office would sell rolls of the coins, the way you could buy rolls at the bank.

    Thanks for your input!

Exactly! My local Lowes has no human cashiers. They only take credit cards. I no longer shop there unless it’s something I need for an emergency.

I have a million of those "gold dollars". I give them as tips to the snack bar folks at the golf course. One young lady told me she was collecting coins and got real excited about the dollar. That earned her another one. I know, I have been told a thousand times to not exaggerate.

With 15 grandkids and 24 great grandkids I don't need another youngster around.

Not a bad idea. I could carry a pocket piece in case I see her again.

    Hi. (Lurker; new poster).
At the bank yesterday, I just happened to ask if they had any rolls of more unusual coin denominations. Someone just brought in $700 worth of gold dollars and 1 roll of half dollars. I'm just a casual coin looker having trouble from research figuring out if they have any value at all to sell/share with real enthusiasts. I bought 5 rolls of the dollars -- a mix of dead presidents and Sacagawea coins. Many in very nice condition!

    Not gold dollars.. Golden dollars.

I stand corrected. Better, I should have written small dollars, I suppose. Technically, a few aren't "golden" but a little coppery/bronzy looking. *grin*

Basically only worth their face value but they contain no gold. Welcome to CT.
