Yeah, the rims entry into the field is a good feature to look at. I do suspect that proof dies were recycled, but I'm unsure if that was actually the case. Here's an MS-67 RB example from HA with sharp inner rims except on the obverse bottom and reverse top area (almost as if that was the first incidence of wear on the die).
I wish someone would post side angle shots of the coin, because due to wear we may not see the dianostics of the coin but the rims edge does tell alot.
Your coin has the look of a 63 grade. Looking at the photo I think your coin has more than enough detail to show proof diagnostics. A better closeup would be helpful, especially around the UNUM, in front of Abe's nose, LIBERTY and the shoulder area.
just look close you can see a line coming from the shoulder just a bit. its where dent in the center of his coat then the line leaves there just a bit
On my Samsung 6 Active I saw a scratch or gouge above VDB and another one Abes shoulder. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
The scratch on the shoulder is in the right area. I can't tell if it begins right at the shoulder or if there is a gap before it starts. It also looks longer than on VDB's I have photos of.
Sorry about the airtite, don't want to remove it...but you get the idea. The first picture is how it looks in hand. Then I blew up the light so the rims and fields pop.
Is this a matte proof? And no VDB not all Matte proofs that are grded show the cresent on the reverse or the scratch on obverse, and ive compared mine to 3 other 09 VDB's and the rim is wider and more flat and sharper edges.
Only one set of dies (obverse and reverse) were used to strike ALL VDB proofs. Every graded example should have the crescent on the reverse and the scratches in front of the nose and the scratch from the shoulder, or it's been misattributed. The scratches in some photos are hard to see depending on how the light hits the area. If you are 100% convinced that your coin is a VDB proof you should send it to PCGS, NGC or Anacs for verification.
