And did you happen to get anything else from them? You need to be careful about believing the first thing you may see the whole story, especially when presenting it as evidence. To give a hint: was there only one die used for the date/mint, or maybe there were, say, four? As a separate issue, even though "thoughts" were requested, why bother if one runs the chance of being treated like a pile of dung?
That's only one of the four known mint mark locations. Doesn't change the fact that - for reasons already mentioned in the thread, to which I'll add that the MM is too far left for the only location known to be that low - the coin is almost certainly a fake.
Read your words again. Did you read them? I took the time to save your images and put them side by side with several images of the real thing. I did this before my first reply. It took much longer than 3.2 seconds. You were already told that the coin did not look right. For my effort you see the need to become insulting? You created this. If you don't think so, read your first reply to me again. Don't be mad at me over your actions. You don't want to hear what else I could say.
I honestly dont know if someone already answered your question but the answer is unfortuanately no. the S is off, but thsts not what does it for me. The bottom or V in VDB is flatter than its supposed to be. Though I could be wrong. Here is a site that will be of interest: https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5217/Counterfeit-1909-S-VDB-Lincoln-Cents/ NGC Counterfeit Detection is great. Please check it before purchasing.
I was just going to ask about that. Any damage is a deal breaker for me, regardless of how good of a "deal" it's supposed to be.
Unfortunately, you now know that there is a pretty good chance that the coin you purchased isn't what you thought it was. That is too bad and I feel for you, but don't shoot the messenger because they gave you an opinion that you didn't like, or it was presented in a fashion that rubbed you the wrong way. We have all been in your shoes at one time or another and have learned from the experience. Move on.
I have looked at hundreds of these over the years and still want to line up images, side by side before I open my mouth or even think of buying one.
I hate to say it ... Mr. Green you have way too much time on your hands That 1909 S VDB is fake .. the S is all wrong .. The B in VDB has wrong Font type not to mention many things look bad these are just a few .. Sorry you have lost money ... welcome to CT and the rest of us members who have had the opportunity to pay the dues
Here is some information that will help you- from the book THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO LINCOLN CENTS, by David Lange. FYI- you could email him and ask him his opinion- I have done that- he is a very nice guy. You can get his email online- or PM me. This material is in the book. Also, I didn't take a pic of this, but he says that the 1909svdb has a distinctive wood grain pattern---a grainy looking planchet and ultimately coin- I hope this information helps---I would consider Mr. Lange about as knowledgeable or more so than anyone on Lincolns. This is absolute fact and not opinion or "I think"---the last coin is my own-pcgs ms66 rb with very weak strike- Good luck-
Sorry everyone- I cant get the verification email- so my pics are not viewable- I guess. Very frustrating. However- the book I referenced has pictures of the correct S, the correct RIM, and other details---that I tried to show.
Yep, my bad guys, I should have found out a little (a lot) bit more about it before posting, thanks for correcting me . Thanks, Jacob
@Broncoholic @ldhair That will be enough gentlemen. If ya wanna discuss the coin then discuss the coin. But the back and forth stops here - and now.
If I were you I would have it Graded I wouldn't take someone word for it. In the future I would by that Coin pre graded
If it turns out real you got a pretty decent chunk of change on your hands I would know I just bought a 64 and 65 of same coin graded by PCGS
