The 1886 is a hard year because it also has a lot of unattributed varieties, your morgan also has the details of the tail feathers, above the...
The only thing that stands out to me is the date, I'm not too sure but the 6 does look higher than usual (VAM 6), check the A in dollar if it has...
Right now I'm saving up for a 1892CC MS64, almost there too.
It's hard to pick just one book but, I would say I use Wayne Miller's The Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook the most.
I agree with byrd, try to take some pics of the whole coin, those are two very common clash areas.
Nice toning, the coin has some light wear, I would say AU50-AU55.
Just voted, Good luck I hope you win!
I'm no where near an error expert, so I cant attest to what type of doubling it is, but what I can say is it has some form of doubling. Plus...
Very nice Morgan :thumb:, I would say XF40, maybe XF45. Btw it looks like VAM12 (Slanted far date and S set high) VAMworld - 1892-S VAM-12
JC I'm interested do you believe this is the VAM190?
I am almost 100% that this coin is VAM190. Imo the motto on the reverse definitely shows die doubling, and it matches the doubling of VAM190...
I cant be sure what kind of doubling it is, but what I can say is there are no VAMs for the 1885O that involve doubling on the E or P.
Ah off by the A :D, Nice find, a lot of over-polishing on that Morgan! Btw congrats on 1000 :thumb:
Since it's the short nock, the VAM190A VAMworld - 1878-P VAM-190Amatches, if it has the clashed N, those clashes can be real hard to spot...
Here's the first thing I noticed, it definitely has the "missing nostril", I'll keep on looking. * Also it is missing details in the lower hair.
Oops I just noticed, it's a 78', I was going by the title that says 87', funny enough check out the 87P VAM24 it matches pretty good :D. Let me...
Machine Doubling I found this post on "Machine Doubling" interesting and have nominated it accordingly for "CoinTalk Thread of the Week Of The...
Looks like douling to me, possibly the VAM24. VAMworld - 1887-P VAM-24 Does it have the polish line on the eagle's left wing?
I found a 1943 Merc dime in my car ashtray today where I keep my change, I have absolutely no clue how it got there :thumb:.
I agree 100%, :thumb: thank you for all the info you have shared Mark.
