Thanks for the contest Lehigh, and congrats TRYFAEN :thumb:.
I would say either plated or polished, and I'm leaning towards polished.
Those are very common clash areas, and usually don't affect the VAM. It has the a very high set O, and is the near date variety for sure. I think...
Hard to tell without seeing the reverse but, I would say VF condition. The big problem is that rim ding on the obv, that is going to affect the grade.
I agree, VAM 6, which is in the top 100 nice find! There also is some slight doubling on the 9, and the O mintmark should be closer to the ribbon...
Happy Birthday Clinker!
No problem, check the date for some slight doubling on the left of the 9 and 2 in the date, plus another die break on the second S in States....
Is it a 21 P, or a 21 D?
No, there can only one VAM. Many times die cracks aren't important for identifying a VAM. Certain areas are considered common for clash marks and...
Rats, sorry but it looks like I was seeing things again . It just looks like a little damage that pushed the bottom of the 1 up a little.
Possibly, I also though I saw some on the 8s, a few VAMs would match, just not sure which one yet. Too bad it wasn't the 7 over 6.
No problem. And maybe I'm just seeing things :D but, it looks like the 1 in the date is slightly doubled at the bottom. If you want post some...
I would say it's in low AU condition, and maybe had a light cleaning at some point. The 1887 is a common date, so it's worth around $20.
I'm with Jacer. I've never seen a Redfield holder like that one, they are usually in a red case, like these: redfield morgan
Sorry but it looks like a counterfeit to me. The lettering is off, as well as the denticles. Here's a photo of a genuine 1878 goloid pattern....
Definitely one of my favorites too!
Congrats Rickie! That is one awesome set.:thumb:
I always took it like this (but I could be wrong); The coin would be an EF45 if it wasn't for the scratch(s), that caused it to get the details...
I'm very sorry to hear that Mike. Hopefully the SOBs are caught. As for the sheets, there too small to read, try uploading them through...
Happy Birthday Rusty! Hope you had a great day. -Mike
