Yeah, those are grease errors. One as dramatic as David's would be worth a premium, but otherwise, not really worth very much...
There isn't a typical thickness, because the quality of the electrum influenced the amount of metal in the coin.

To me, the rarity cannot be really judged until the prices have really setteled...in 50 years time some of them will be rare, and some not.

I think the slab is pretty honest, and the dealer also so. Price is a tiny bit high, I would be saying $35 for that one.
