That's quite a story daisyd. Sounds like stories I've heard before.
I do like that one the best. I've been changing it going through the list.
It could be a number of things. I picture is a must to give an educated opinion.
Welcome daisyd to the forum. I don't think that it was something the mint made. Probably someone with a lot of extra time made.
Got a close up of that area?
Looks like it's had the buffer taken to it.
I'll second that.
I think the rules need to be read again. That's all agree or don't join, and that applies to me also.
I agree. I'm new at this, so from what I can see I'm going to say VF20 to VF35 at best.
This is a 1963D-1D0-001 EDS (early die state) Nice find. I can't tell what that other mark is until a closer shot is provided.
For those who may not know, that second picture is machine doubling damage commonly referred to as MDD or MD for short.
I had to reread the rules. It means it's late.

That's great, it took the date but put it back.
What grade are you in?
Is he willing to share some of those on this site?
Unless it's a sizable crack it won't add much value if any at all to the coin. The mint views those as damage not an error.
Some of those struck a little to the side is the results of them being further up the track and vibrated off to the side a little.
Does he send them out or by what you said it sounds like he's got slabs.
