Go on over to Coppercoins.com, and Wexler's die varieties, also Variety Vista. There are a lot of doubled dies from 1970. Some don't show...
Now that you mention it I think you are right. Maybe after they heated it they stretched it

If you took the time to follow the links and compare my coin to the 3 examples I listed you would see it.

The MM were punched into the die after the die received the impression from the master hub. That means if the date was doubled on the die itself...
That was one of my thoughts. Why aren't the 9' and 8 of the date melted?

Fingerprints don't matter as much on Nickels or dimes unless they are silver. On a copper coin one fingerprint will ruin it. The oils on the skin...
I checked and there are no doubled die obverse listings for 1979-D. If there were any someone would have found it by now. There are some RPM's...
All of Wexler's DDO, and DDR listings start with W. None of Coneca's or Coppercoins start with W, wide, tall it does not change.
Yours has no doubling on the 6, Wexler's does. The doubling on the 9 on Wexler's is twice as wide as yours.
