Looks like die deterioration.
Sold! For $150. SMH. Even though the buyer is at fault for being dumb enough to buy without knowing what it is, I still feel bad for them because...
Sounds like a magicians coin. Does it have a rotated reverse? Also, post pics.
You should have sold it when you found it. They were going for hundreds back then. I think you'd be extremely lucky to get $100 for it.
Grease or struck through capped die. A couple of bucks.
Struck throughs are raised now?
It's obviously a drilled and repaired hole. Pretty common on coins from that time.
Razor blade damage. There was another one like it last week.
Rolling machine damage.
Yeah, the dates have not been punched into the dies in a LONG time, so the only way that could happen is if grease filled the 2 and then fell out...
Does Fred help eBay remove these fake "errors?"
What do you guys think?...
That's an ugly one, but it does look real. A clearer picture of the obverse would help to confirm.
Yeah, I'm surprised the piece that broke off the die didn't jam the machinery. Speaking of, did anyone ever find a broken die cud piece in a mint...
They have by far the highest mintage of US coins, so they will have the most errors.
Has anyone seen one larger than this? Not my coin, but I wanted to share....
Glue or hammer job. It's worthless.
It sounds like a grease filled die.
Hammer job.
