it toned while stacked with other nickels, like when someone spilled soda on it. the coins above and below it protected part of the coin.

It's a die crack, i've seen them with cracks on all 4 corners, but never all 4 at a time though.
It looks like a triangle of toning to me, the outline doesn't match the outline of the memorial.
