Oh, fiddlesticks. Here's a different issue, 1840 liberty head quarter eagle with much better strike than usual: [ATTACH]
1840 anyone? My favorite year! No double eagles until 1850. This is a first year of issue and the largest denomination coin of the time. [ATTACH]
The lines in the shield appear to have been smashed a bit - actually quite a bit, but you have to look close. The resolution is sufficient to...
OMG - a circulated counterfeit Penny! Who would do that?
It's a recognized variety by both PCGS and NGC now. I was hoping they would, as I think the coins is great and may be "original".
None taken. I agree. But in the case of the 1840 (O) it's a little less obvious so I thought just maybe.
question about the 1950-D. Where is the D - under the corrosion (or dirt)? I don't know nickels very well so I wouldn't know where to look anyway.
huh! false stamped date? And off center too. Stamping machine went wild. Interesting error. I should pay more attention to my pennies! Hah!...
To keep this going a little bit - and because this is an interesting coin that I only discovered was a quasi rarity until well after I bought it...
I can't take credit for that. Those are the seller's pics. Yeah, they are really good. Hopefully they send the coin in the pictures! Stellar...

I seldom buy raw coins but for a low price they are kind nice to have for the grandkids to actually hold in their hands. bought this one from...
So it sounds like you didn't even pay what the melt value would be for a genuine coin. Is that right? There's a good lesson for you (us)!
BTW, good example of the different look of the 1838 reverse on the 1840 (O) vs the 63. I never saw them together like that myself!
Here are the others. The one I would have liked to have passed is the 1840(O) (also xf40) which is a pretty scarce coin and this one looks great....
I recently sent in five silver coins of moderate value to CAC and two came back with certification. The two that got it were a little surprising...
Circulated counterfeits! Amazing! thanks. I suppose that in small denominations it never really mattered much - as it seems like they had...
Ah, AU58 here we come! Sliders! Thank you for clarifying that, GDJMSP.
Certainly looks out of the ordinary to me. Is it extremely common on early half cents?
