I'm hoping for some feedback on this one. It looks like the upper half of the 2 is doubled above the 2. Any idea what could cause this?...
Thanks for all of the answers. I'm learning - slowly...
Interesting. Is this common?
Thanks Eddie. Good thoughts. I wonder though how just the 9 (and maybe the 8 to a lesser extent) can be double struck without more of the coin...
Doubt it, but looks like doubling in 9. Any thoughts?[ATTACH] [ATTACH]
High heat could be right. Might that make the bubbling on the surface more intense? Still does not explain the overall weak details though, I think.
I'm sure of the weight as I've measured many copper cents - all right around 3.1 grams and many zinc cents, all about 2.5 grams. Also, the cent...
I measured the thickness of it. 0.60" Three others I measured were the same or a bit less. I think the bubbling is just a plating issue which...
Thanks Oldhoopster, but I am not assuming it's an error (per the post you replied to). It could be that it was exposed to some acidic or caustic...
I don't know, but it would really be a coincidence if it corroded down to the exact normal weight of a zinc. I too am skeptical of an error but...
I saw that too. It does look like something is under the 8. Upper left and inside of the lower part of the digit.
It's not folded over. There is clear space between the letters and rim.
I doubt it though I must admit I wondered too.
I weighed it at 2.5 grams so I know it's zinc. To me it does not look like corrosion. It is heavily "splattered" as many of this era are, and I...
Don't know, but it looks like that's how it was minted to me. Thanks for your input - we'll get some more opinions, hopefully. It is very shiny...
Very weak - blurred strike both sides [IMG] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH]
Thanks Picken. The machine doubling I think I can see (the sharp edges?) but can you tell me how you know the characteristics that indicate die...
Okay, I'm enough of a novice that I really don't know about this one. I can't find any listings for a 1952 DDR. Your comments are appreciated!...
More pics, 1952 DDR?[ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH] [ATTACH]
