Thanks for the opinions. I was thinking MS64, but that obverse staining bothers me. It's a Top 100 VAM with wide reeding. Latest VAM value...
Picked it up raw this week. Opinions on grade? It's an easy to recognize VAM, but not necessarily from the obverse and reverse images. :smile...
more info... there were only four basic reverse designs for the Morgan series. The "A" reverse from 1878 has eight tail feathers, the "B" reverse...
Fake. Among other things, that type of reverse was not used in 1889... or on any CC Morgans.
I had a tooth pulled today and am starting to doze off from the meds. Before I fall asleep, I'll post the slab. It's in an "old" pre-star NGC...
Thanks for the comments. I'd tried taking a photo. It didn't come out well at all, so I didn't post it. No correct guesses yet.
Any guess at the grade? It's slabbed by NGC. edited to add- these are scans, not photos. [IMG] [IMG]
The most frequent thing I see on these counterfeits is the wrong reverse (like on your example). They always seem to model the rare date fakes...
Welcome! I don't think PCGS or NGC would help you. ANACS should. As mentioned, there are features on the obverse that can be checked. Van...
Are they all 1922-P's? 13 of the" Top 50" Peace dollars are 1922-P's. Did you check them all out?
Nice image! That's not a die gouge. It's a clash mark. Unfortunately it's very common. If you look at the obverse of the coin, you can line up...
Welcome ferriswheel! Aren't there some varieties that carry a premium? I know nothing about Walking Liberty Halves, but thought I read about a...
They look the same to me. The coin on the left looks like it was a struck with a worn die and gives a mushy appearance.
Nice! Yes, it looks like a VAM 27 long nock. The mark on the L looks like circulation damage. The coin looks like it probably had a...
Very nice!!!! I think the images look super. Nice clashed letters too.
See here for VAM. It's initials of two guys that identified die pairing and characteristics for Morgan and Peace dollars (Van Allen and Mallis)....
The die cracks in the first and last images seem to match VAM 1CP (JOH-15). [IMG] [IMG]
Can you take a scan of the Morgan alone? It's tough to say from the current image, but it looks like a VAM 1CP (formerly JOH-15). It's not a...
Picked this up last week. The scan doesn't show the luster or cartwheels, but the coin looks very nice in hand. Strong contrast on the obverse....
well, there were no wrong guesses. Yes, it's a VAM 3G pitted reverse. [IMG] [IMG]
