With all due respect, I disagree with most of the comments so far. If these are contemporary (to the time they circulated) counterfeits, they have...
Neon beat me to it. The force needed is not related to the thickness of the planchet, but the size (diameter) of it. So, a dollar or half-dollar...
With all due respect, this idea sounds a little half-baked. There seems to be some confusion over what the plan is – I read it to be a press...
I vote counterstamp, most likely the # 8. Metal displacement does not always happen the way you would expect it to. I actually do think I see some...
Bruce – the resolution on the PC I am using right now is bad, but are there two “dots” over the “o”? If there is an umlaut (the dots) then it is...
I am with messydeck on this one. I worked in a cemetery during summer breaks while in college. We had lots of old stones and giving the age of the...
I also collect this sort of thing when I come across them (as if I don’t have enough stuff that I collect and save already!). That is a great...
With all due respect, I also think that it is a major die error they will indeed trash an entire batch or at least search them (they did this for...
I have a tidbit of trivia stuck in a corner of my brain, and as I recall, some gold coins minted in the 19th century had "CAL." counterstamped on...

To add what I know about the Maringer coins: The NML/NMW dies were also used by at least two associates of Maringer in addition to him. NO OIL...
Bruce - thanks for that great information. I have not seen the ones that are numbered. I wonder if he used the c/stamps to track his...
As has been discussed here before, patience is often the best approach to stalking a favorite counterstamp at a reasonable price. It worked once...
If you come up with an easy answer please post it - I am interested in any comments people may have. I made a quick Google search and came up...
I am no expert on this, but I think that it may not be so much that ‘I” was used instead of “J” but that either: 1) in a different language the...
Thx for the clarification. I tried to Google one to make sure before I posted, but I found a 1906 and that one was curved.....
I don't think that Indian is real. Look at the bottom of the date - it is straigtht across and does not follow the curve of the coin.
That is both good news and bad news. Always glad to see an updated resource, but I do wish I had gotten my TITANIC stamp listed only to help...
