Also, coins have their own celebrities... Bowers and a couple other hundred "big names"
Many of those coins that bring big $$ sell to investors and dealers.
IMO, that is a rather ugly coin. Toning looks like it is covering up an AU coin. Dislike.
Owle... are you able to turn a profit with Teletrade's commission and your initial cost?

Fingerprint on the second?
Thanks, I looked up N5. which mentions a small center dot. That's what I was referring to. Is the 1817 N5 an R1?
How do you get N5? I thought that had a minute center dot?
Sent the coin into NGC. Came back AU55
1817 No center dot, low T in CENT, High A in STATES Can't seal down the deal.[ATTACH][ATTACH]
I think the speculation would kill the coin business. Nice idea of bartering but I don't see it happening.
Any ideas regarding grade/value?
I really can't tell. To the naked eye, it looks plain. All of these have been in a collection from the 40's.
Another 1803 Here is another 1803 Much more worn also feel free to shout out grades and cleaning issues [ATTACH][ATTACH]
Separate names with a comma.
