A description of the coin would be helpful if you cannot obtain a picture. What was on the obverse? The reverse? Is it a US coin?
It would be awesome to have a Flying Eagle Commemorative…same design just on a dollar or half dollar.
I've seen a couple of them on bid boards before...they usually sell for about $2 or so.
Perhaps someone gave it a bath in steel (or other metallic substance)? It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks exactly like a copper...
