Were the MSD's legit 69's or graded on a curve, in your opinion ? It's a big coin with big fields so blemishes show easily, unlike on a dime.
I would probably give it a 68 myself, though if you are going by comps, I can see why it got a 69. I see some tiny dings on the reverse rim, but...
I know we've had this debate before so I won't go into the "is it wear" thing again....but you do know that it is almost certainly the case that...

Beautiful coin. Not into toners, but very nice. Congrats !
They must have been rare or scarce coins. I saw a MS-65+ 1923-D Saint-Gaudens go for just under $4,000 (including bp) over at HA. Nice rise, but...
Really ? Wow.....that's surprising (to me, at least).
Absolutely understand...and I get selling an occasional bad purchase at a loss so as not to tie up $$$ in stuff that isn't moving. But you can't...
Whoa...I looked at the picture....is that a "scratch" or a defect in the die ? I thought a scratch would go INTO the coin and that looks like it...
I'm not good at grading compared to most CT'ers, let alone a professional or vet....but if the scratch wasn't a result of cleaning or gross...
Yup, that's it GD. I figure today with regular coins that we use to buy stuff (pennies, nickels, dimes, etc.) you can probably get lots of 69's...

But you would not sell another dealer coins at break-even -- or even a loss ? -- for the community, right ? Maybe the Secret Sauce is bid-ask...
I would guess it's easier for a large coin to have dents and dings in the fields and on the devices as it comes off the press.
Something that I don't understand ....GD here has said that 80% of the business at big shows might be dealer-to-dealer BEFORE the show even...
"The Best One" -- a Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle from the Wells Fargo Hoard -- is up for sale over at GC (ends Sunday night). It is graded MS-69,...
Carson City Double Eagles (anything from CC !) have been hot during Covid.
The price guide is close to $40K but recent auctions seem closer to $20K ? Have to check actual auctions instead of listed auctions for...
Not as skilled on the Liberty's as the Saints, but a quick glance at my dated Bowers DE book says price years ago was $7,500 (is much higher...
I think that is similar to the explanation in RWB's Saint-Gaudens book. I never knew what caused luster before.....thought it was more a case of...
Separate names with a comma.
