The $0.25 estimated value was based on the fact that you would find that type of coin in a gigantic bin of world worthless coins at a coin show....
I find that black brings out the differences in copper vs. silver vs. gold much better than white backgrounds. I guess just my personal opinion...

Try selecting with the circular tool, copying only that circular piece, and then pasting the circular coin image over top of a black background...
I edited the coins in Adobe Photoshop CS4. There is a tool to select circular shaped items, and crop out the area around them. :)
