The done has a bad case of MD. As far as the extra leaf, no to that but it could be a small new Die break or a die clash as per your overlay.

To answer your question the 1938 is a nice circulated wheat cent but the 1987-D is just another zinc cent suffering from plating bubbles.
It's damaged and that's all that matters.
