I would say it's damaged as in PMD and the wear from circulation shows around the hole as it's been smoothed.

The ridge is from a worn die. The hair on the rim is from circulation.
It might be a thread but it looks like ink to me. At least in the photo. I think we need it in hand to tell for sure.
