Since it didn’t line up it could be a defective planchet. That would be my best guess. At any rate, I’d call that coin a keeper so protect it.
You’re welcome. Lay another cent by the indentation and see if it fits. It could be several reasons as to what happened.
It looks very nice, crisp, clean and no folds or unwanted ink marks. A binary note with 9’s and 5’s so not a true binary.
It’s just a worn silver quarter worth it’s junk value price. Most definitely not an error coin.

A Cud must touch the rim. A die chip can appear anywhere but when it happens on the rim it becomes a Cud.
Not worth grading but definitely worth keeping. That is one neat looking die chip and it’s in the perfect place.
