It's the green stuff. It is the corrosion that forms on copper - it will literally eat up the coin.
Well, I'd agree with ya Speedy if you were planning on removing the coins from the set. But with Proof sets, mint sets and the like - packaging...

Value aside - you need to get the verdigris off the coin to prevent further damage as it WILL spread.
Well, you don't expect to see Proof coins in a bank as they are not issued for circulation. They are sold to collectors. But every now and then...
