I always base my grading opinions on the ANA standards. Reading those standards for any particular coin will always make it clear why I say what I do.

I think the '53 is a slider - have to go with AU58. The '56 has EF45 details, but I would guess that the coin spent a short time in the ground as...
If you read the ANA descriptions for VG8 and F12 this coin falls solidly between them, that = VG10. But if you make allowances for a weak strike...
Can't swear to it as I have never done it, but I think it's either $100 or $150 a coin.
I gotta go with post mint damage. I can't imagine anything that could happen at the mint to cause that.
Yes FDC is a European grading term, it equates with MS65 or better here in the US.

Yeah, you can find prices all over the board. Every now n then if you really search you cna find a used copy for under $100.
Perhaps, ya never know with the IRS. But the mint would. And that might present an interesting quandary - having one govt. agency saying it is and...
