There are actually 2 reeded edge 1865 cent patterns: J-403a and J-405. The only difference is the alloy (copper vs copper/nickel).
Lindner carries similar-looking cases. I've never seen them in person, so I don't know what they're made of, but they look nice.
I'd just send it in. Better yet, take it to a big show and have it authenticated at the walk-thru tier. You can probably get 5 expert opinions...
