Dumb question...how do we/you know these non-mint gold or silver rounds/coins are actually silver/gold ??
I wonder if you can 'smudge' a five 9's purity gold coin in your fingers...must be MUCH SOFTER than a .999 let alone the Krug/AGE @ 0.9167 fine gold.
I actually think your 66 shows a bit more hair detail than mine, at least right over the ear.
Where are the hairlines and how do you tell them from bag marks?
Thanks Doug and CPM...I was aware of the approximate silver in a MSD but was off on the GW Quarters. Like I said, I'll try and inventory this...
Don't disagree..but how many people here or from the collecting community are going to be BETTER at spotting bad coins and/or overgradeds (or...
Good chart, Doug. The Gold/Silver ratio tends to be LOWER when PMs are in fashion as silver, a speculative play, outperforms. The ratio is lower...
You're right, I meant and implied $2,000 in SILVER VALUE. I'll try and recount and catalog -- looking for any years/mints you guys tell me to be...
Hold it..... $1,000 face value is what....4,000 quarters, right ? Each has...what....1/4 oz. or a bit less of silver ? So that would mean...
Yes, that might be possible.....hate dragging that all over to shows and LCSs, so maybe best to catalog it and see who has interest. Thanks !
I don't have a complete bag, mostly stuff from parents/grandparents.....a couple of those brownish/red rolls of quarters with a silvery feel. I...
Morgan's have collector/numismatic value, too, just that you are paying a much larger premium for them relative to the content. I "play" with...
My Newest Pal: an 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar....MS-66 and CAC, too ! :D Some of the Morgan experts here have suggested going for a somewhat...
Thanks JP.....I'm really not seeing the strike weakness, what should I be looking at compared to maybe my 1884-CC ? BTW, beautiful coin, yes !
Congratulations, it's a Morgan:D: Just picked this up this month. It's my first CAC (not that I actively seek them out) and also the...
Yes, I remember that generally some previously scarce mintages took baths of 75-90% once the hoards came out. But depending on what happened to...
Probably from his association with Bruce McNall. :D
For a very old coin like Cape Bust Quarters, I can certainly see your point. On Saints and newer coins, die cracks indicate genuine coins. But...
Roger Burdette talks about this in "From Mine To Mint" and you realize that metallurgy and striking technology was so raw back in the early-1800's...
Good strategy, JPC. As for the MSD totals, I think I summed them up year-by-year. Couldn't find a source with total mintage. Your numbers look...
