The email said "numeric grade". So you could say BU, AU, EF, XF, whatever - just no specific number. Doesn't seem like it would affect details...

Well, that's why I asked. So, environmental damage is toning, but toning that is extreme enough that there is likely damage to the coin surface....
This coin was graded VF details - environmental damage, by NGC. I don't dispute the grade, but I'm wondering what constitutes the line between...
