Actually the mint mark was punched into the working die as opposed to the master die.
No the spread of the date on the counterfeit does not match the spread for 1911 or 1914.
I'll admit when I first glanced at the OP's coin in this thread - the damage on the "9" of the date caused me to do a double take and think back...
While the following certainly does not authenticate the OP's coin as real - it also doesn't provide any indication the OP's coin is counterfeit....
I'm not sure either but I don't think they are dies. From the images the design devices appear to be in relief and on a die the design would be...
This is something to take note of. Being the reverse design for the Lincoln Wheat Cent after the "VDB" change in 1909 remained virtually static...
Common marks aside - as for the obverse - the spread of the date matches all the counterfeits. Which is not the spread for a real 1914 Lincoln...
I have concerns of this coin myself. [ATTACH]
It is my opinion the OP's coin of this thread and the coin from the CU thread are not altered dates. They are counterfeits struck from a die and...
I agree with the CU poster that brought up the size of the 1st "1" in the date - it is way to tall on OP's coin. Actually the spread on the whole...
Just an update - gave an employee two $100.00 bills to go to the bank and get some more ones. Guess what they brought back? More star notes. Now I...

Picked up cash from the bank my business cash register yesterday. Two $100.00 banded stacks of ones. I hate new bills for the cash register....
The easiest pickup is the different spacing of "E PLURIBUS" when using overlay
Added bonus for those that didn't see my post in one of Jack's previous threads. The FS-901 DDR counterfeit thread caused me to look at Barber...
Some may recall many months back - I posted about a possible reverse design change concerning the Barber Half. Most notable the right side banner...
How about flooding the market with counterfeit yuan coinage?
The FS-901 DDR thread caused me to look at Barber Quarters closer. Learned that over the course of the issue two different obverse master hubs...
It appears the design of the half changed vary little if any over time. Produced from a master hub or maybe even reduced from a galvano that...
Hopefully they will go beyond a determination of authenticity of this specific coin. IF the OP's coin emulates an authentic FS-901 - then I have...
