Sure there's a process - you dip it in, you rinse it off - all done.
You need to remember that a US coin's obv and rev are rotated 180 degrees from each other. So your pics would be like this -

The point in this case KD is that coin was in mint condition until that happened. And a mint condition coin is what the buyer wanted.
