Most likely incuse die doubling. (VDB) The cent is damaged from the coin roller ring on the reverse.
Yes, MD does mostly occur on worn dies, but it is also usually the wearing out of the parts that hold the dies in place. IE machine doubling.
Much better, I wouldn't give it a grade better than 63. 63 has been auctioning at $3 to 300 as of late.
I really don't know the series to well but the reverse doesn't fit the Medium letter or Large letters.
