Did you guys know the edges don't have zinc on them? They plated the strip before punching out the blanks. Not much can be done to fix the rust...
When you take images with the goal of hiding problems you are not being honest.
AU sounds right. I don't feel it was cleaned. The luster and color are all there.
I will guess it is a ground find that was cleaned up.
I don't understand. The zinc melts and the copper melts later and flows around?

Soak in water first to see if the glue gets soft. Acetone is next.

They are actually scratches. The copper has to go somewhere when a coin is scratched. It comes up around the scratch.
