Nah! It's just toning, and it looks cleaned with something then re-toned. Look around his head. There's a border of toning all around it.
I would just leave it as it is. Freckles are cute, that's what my wife says.:p
It's all Environmental "Toning". They are made of Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel over a pure Copper center.
