Certainly an interesting coin. Don't know anything about them, but the face really looks ultra high relief.
So you say no price to cheap for a problem coin - does that apply to this porous coin also -http://www.cointalk.com/forum/t61658/? :mouth:
I think you said it best. I can only see buying pedigree coins if you are willing to pay the premium some of them demand. The only 100% sure way...
I have to disagree from my perspective. "Impulse buying" does not equate to "problems" - all the times. Plus some of us would have to travel far...
Without know the true color of the coin it is hard to say. I also put the details at VF20 and maybe $10 to $15. Just my opinion.
I can't really tell from the pictures. I think I see a lot of little hits. What is going on with the F and forehead?
Probably grade might make a difference.
Nice coppers Kanga!
Well I like the reverse, but the speckled look on the obverse is not my cup of tea. The reverse just seems a nice even toning across the coin.
I would find a nice sturdy envelope for them and leave them in the original packaging.
This is one of the reasons why I like to use paypal. First because I am more worried about a honest mistake with a member - letter gets lost, etc....
I would say AU53 on the 1857 and would have said AU58 on the original coin.
How about a close-up - cause from this angle it does remind me of Durante. :)
Thanks for sharing the rest of the original note. Very cool indeed. I think the designs on these old notes are nicer than the current ones.
When you collect by variety sometimes you take what you can get. Plus they could post an NC variety and it becomes a steal. I see what toad is...
You can always off them in the open forum. Just a thought.
Nice haul - I think I have found 1 silver dime in the change at work. That is all the silver - a few wheaties here and there.
You could, but I wouldn't. The worst part about it is there are a lot of buyers out there who would ding him seriously.
No - but I can not force someone to understand the difference in the toning. It takes experience to buy these coins raw -PS experience I know I do...
Cool silver 1843 wheatie.
