You might want to get the book, ANA Grading Standards for US Coins. It's available on the Whitman Books site. Chris
@JMosby First, welcome to the neighborhood! Others have found coins similar to yours, thinking that they were missing one or both of the clad...
Is it possible that the thin mintmark was simply due to a weaker strike? Chris
The '98-S is a Matte Finish, not a Matte Proof. It was originally graded "MS" but was later changed to "SP". The two I have are graded MS. Chris
Thanks for posting those, Alan! The letter from France is particularly interesting because of the period. It seems that it wasn't too much later...
@Skyman I believe that Sy is referring to the difference between the two "S" mintmarks. Note that one is "thin and open" while the other is...
Regardless, your BS/joke was in poor taste while @jtlee321 was proudly trying to show off his latest submission. Yeah, I like to beat a dead...

The same way you find a great mate! You've got to kiss a lot of toads before you find a prince.:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot: Chris
As Lincoln's go, I like the 55-S the best. It's a shame that there isn't a "No Step" Jeff attribution. Chris
@coinzip I think you're all wrong! I like #3 the best. Chris:wacky::wacky::wacky::wacky:
